Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, the Irvine, Calif.-based concern that is a household name in Southern California, announced it would donate its David Chow Humanitarian Award cash prize to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast.
The $2,500 check, awarded to Antis in 2022, will be presented to the Club during the nonprofit’s ‘Back-to-School’ Backpack Drive, scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, the concern said in a July 19 news release.
“Our campaign provides about a thousand new backpacks and supplies to kids who need them most, and this contribution helps make it happen,” said David Blair, the nonprofit’s director of philanthropy and corporate partnerships. “We are so grateful for Charles Antis’ constant dedication to our cause; this honor is just another tribute to that dedication.”
California Love Drop will serve up its locally famous lunch from Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, along with Yogurtland treats and beverages during the event. Wahoo’s Fish Tacos co-founder Wing Lam will be cooking on site; rising star Madison Taylor Baez, the 12-year-old singer and actress who was a “Golden Buzzer” winner on “America’s Got Talent” last year, is expected to appear.
Antis expects around 250 kids to attend the party; each child will receive a backpack filled with critical school supplies, including new books donated by children’s author Lisa Wiehebrink and founder of Tails that Teach.
“The youth who receive the Backpack Drive supplies have been identified as kids who would likely rely on hand-me-down or leftover supplies from the prior school year,” The Boys & Girls Clubs’ Blair said. “This [event] offers our kids not just the tools they need in school, but also the confidence that comes with great quality and just a bit of compassion.”
The Back-to-School Backpack Drive event will occur at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana, 950 West Highland, Santa Ana, Calif., from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
