Deputies with the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Department caught three suspects in the midst of robbing a roofing company in Apple Valley, Calif.

According to a release from the sheriff’s department, around 12:41 a.m. on Jan. 10, deputies responded to Chaparosa Roofing for a burglary in progress. When deputies arrived, they spotted a man exiting a 2008 white Ford truck with a Texas license plate. Deputies checked the Vehicle Identification Number and discovered the license plate didn’t belong to the truck. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen out of Barstow, Calif., in December 2022.

Deputies claim three suspects could be seen loading tires and other items into the truck and drug two vehicles off the property.

The report states the three men were arrested and subsequently booked at High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $300,000 bail, each. The men are all from California and were identified as John Byrne, 49, of Hesperia; Steve Morton, 39, of Newbery Springs; and Brad Spellman, 44, of Apple Valley. Potential charges include grand theft and possession of stolen property.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Deputy J. Guzman at the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station at 760-552-6800.
