A proposed code change (FS143-03/04) was recently rejected at the International Code Council largely through the efforts of SPRI, Waltham, Mass., the trade group representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the single-ply roofing industry.

The proposed code change would have added FM 4435 as an alternate method of qualifying roof edge systems. According to SPRI, FM 4435 has not been subjected to a consensus review process as generally required by ICC to be a referenced standard or test. SPRI members Brad White of Metal Era Inc. and Lisa McIlvey of W.P Hickman Co. provided testimony at the ICC final hearing on the code change, which were held in late May in Overland Park, Kan. The Fire Safety committee's recommendation to change the code was overturned.
