CertainTeed Corp.'s roofing facility in Oxford, N.C., has reached a major safety milestone by working 2 million hours without a lost-time accident. According to Mark Heilman, plant manager, the facility's exceptional safety record can be attributed to the combined efforts of committee teams, regular safety production meetings and several highly effective safety-training programs. "Oxford employees place a special emphasis on safety that really distinguishes the facility," Heilman notes. "They make safety their business every day."

This safety milestone comes on the heels of the plant's recognition in the annual Asphalt Roofing Manufacturing Association's (ARMA) Accident Prevention Contest in which the plant received the President's Award in the large plant category. The Oxford facility has been awarded this top honor eight of the last nine years.
