Burns & Scalo Roofing Honors Veterans With Free Roofs
Second annual Roofs for the Red, White, and Blue program doubled its impact by replacing two roofs for military families in need.

Burns & Scalo Roofing continued its commitment to military families in November by hosting its second annual Roofs for the Red, White, and Blue program, providing free roof replacements to two veterans in need in Pennsylvania and doubling the impact of the company’s inaugural effort.
The first recipient, Army veteran Mary Charles, shared her emotional connection to her family home and the ongoing challenges she has faced in protecting it.
“My mother and I have been trying to repair our roof for years. After previous attempts with other companies failed, we felt defeated,” Charles said. “Now, with my acceptance to active duty, we hope to restore our home and preserve its legacy for future generations. Our home represents love, family, and history. Starting with a strong, waterproof roof means everything to us.”
The second recipient, Richard Kent of West Leechburg, is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served from 2004–2006, including deployments to Haiti and Iraq. His wife, Rebecca, shared the challenges their family has faced since Richard’s service.
“My husband wanted to join the United States Marine Corps after 9/11. We met and married between his deployments, and after years of fertility struggles, our daughter was born in 2018,” Rebecca Kent shared. “She was later diagnosed with epilepsy, developmental delays, and autism. Our home, purchased in 2020, has been a place of comfort and safety for our family, but the roof had grown old and was in urgent need of replacement, especially above our daughter’s room.”
After receiving their new roof, the Kent family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the program and the Burns & Scalo team.
“We are loving our new roof and feel so honored to have been chosen by Burns & Scalo for this incredible gift,” the family shared. “Knowing there are so many deserving veterans out there makes this even more meaningful. Their team was respectful, efficient, and did a beautiful job. It’s such a relief to know this much-needed replacement will last for years to come.”
For Burns & Scalo Roofing, providing safe and secure shelter goes beyond roofing. It is about caring for the people who have sacrificed so much.
“We were incredibly honored to give back to veterans and families in our region who have selflessly served our country,” said Adam Galis, vice president of Burns & Scalo Roofing. “Their sacrifices don’t end when their service does, and we believe it’s our responsibility to support them in meaningful ways. Being able to provide a safe, secure roof over their heads is one small way we can say thank you.”
