Giving Back
Cenvar Roofing Builds Hope for Veterans Year-Round
Cenvar Roofing and Solar donates over $200,000 annually through employee-driven giving program

Many companies ramp up their support for military veterans with one-time promotions or donations for Veterans' Day. However, for Cenvar Roofing and Solar, honoring those who served is a 365-day commitment woven into the company’s operations.
The Lynchburg, Va.-based contractor, which operates in more than 20 locations across Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, donates more than $200,000 annually to local programs and individuals in need through its Cenvar Gives program. A significant portion of that support goes directly to veterans facing housing challenges, providing no-cost roof replacements alongside other critical home improvements.
“Since founding Cenvar in 2012, our team has been united around a shared mission: to deliver exceptional roofing and strengthen the communities we call home,” said Chris Good, CEO of Cenvar Roofing and Solar. “Through our Cenvar Gives initiative, we go far beyond building roofs. We forge lasting connections in the neighborhoods we serve.”
Good explains that the company has witnessed firsthand how a damaged roof can harm the lives and health of those living beneath it.
“We’ve met inspiring individuals whose resilience and leadership uplift their communities each day,” he said. “Cenvar Gives allows our employees to honor and serve these remarkable people.”
What sets Cenvar’s approach apart is its employee-driven model. Nominations for the Cenvar Gives initiative are most often led by team members, and every single member of the Cenvar team has the opportunity to initiate a community partnership project.
“Cenvar Gives isn’t about the dollars spent — it’s about the added opportunities for connection and impact,” Good said. “Over the years, we’ve seen this program ignite a passion for giving back, both through Cenvar Gives and in our employees’ own lives.”
A Mission Rooted in Service
At Cenvar, supporting veterans isn’t just a marketing initiative — it’s a core value.
“At Cenvar, servanthood is a core value, and we choose to honor and serve the veterans who’ve selflessly protected our life, liberty, and property,” Good said. “An unfortunate reality is that far too many veterans face significant challenges after returning home. They deserve secure, safe, and stable housing, and providing a new roof to veterans who need it is one meaningful way we can give back.”
The company partnered with Purple Heart Homes and the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a nationwide initiative that has provided new roofs for more than 700 veterans since 2016. Through this partnership, Cenvar has completed multiple projects that have left lasting impressions on the entire team.
“Each partnership project we’ve completed has left our team deeply moved,” Good said. “Witnessing homeowners and Purple Heart Homes volunteers share moments together, swapping stories of service and sacrifice, has touched our team beyond measure."
In September, Cenvar partnered with Purple Heart Homes and Owens Corning to help William Hart, a U.S. Army and Marine Corps veteran living in Amherst, Va., Devoted to his wife’s health and happiness, Hart faced challenges maintaining their home on a fixed income, with much of their resources going toward her medical care. When a fallen tree damaged their roof and insurance didn’t cover the repairs, Cenvar stepped in to provide a complete roof replacement worth more than $12,000.
But the team didn’t stop there.
Upon assessing the home, Cenvar project coordinator and Army reservist Griffin Coggins identified another critical need: the home’s windows were old, many of which were broken and inefficient, posing challenges for the approaching winter weather. To ensure the Harts’ comfort and security, Cenvar’s Windows and Doors division installed energy-efficient replacement windows and new doors.
“It’s a great day when I return from two weeks of reservist training and work with fellow military members from Purple Heart Homes to support Mr. Hart and his wife,” Coggins said. “It’s a full-circle moment that truly puts things into perspective.”

More Projects on the Horizon
The Hart project is just one example of Cenvar’s ongoing commitment. The company has additional veteran projects already scheduled in the coming weeks.
In Charleston, W.V., Cenvar will join Owens Corning to install a roof as part of a full home remodel for a Coast Guard veteran whose home was severely damaged and robbed of valuables while she was away, leaving her displaced for months. The following week in Harrisonburg, Va., the team will re-roof the home of Greg Hansbrough, an Army veteran who urgently needs a liver transplant from a blood type O+ or O- living donor due to a medical condition.
“These roofs are more than shelter — they restore dignity and hope,” Good said. “We consider it a privilege to give back to those who serve our Cenvar communities.”
