In June Tecta America Corp. announced the launch of Tecta Solar, a division of the company dedicated to the development of turnkey solar energy systems. Tecta America Corp., headquartered in Skokie, Ill., is the largest commercial roofing company in the country. It has more than 50 locations and more than 3,500 employees.

I recently spoke with Ken Beiser, Managing Director of Tecta Solar, who summed up the new division this way: “Tecta Solar is set up to be a center of experience and a resource for the rest of the Tecta operating units. We provide development expertise, financial resources, and procurement expertise on a central basis for the Tecta companies actively pursuing solar.”

Understanding the tax incentives and the local power rates is crucial to the project’s profitability, noted Beiser. “The implementation of solar today is as much about the fiscal engineering as the physical engineering,” he said. “Capturing all of the incentives available for customers - and capturing them in an efficient way - is what makes these projects happen.”

“I was a project finance banker for almost 18 years. The reason a banker joined a roofing company is that the financing and development side is so important. We want to make sure the financing and development is perfect. And we match this with the unsurpassed installation ability of Tecta America, plus O and M, warranty, all that good stuff.”
