HILLSBORO, Ore. — Christopher Ekerson and Brandon Smith are no strangers to the roofing industry, and it was only a matter of time before they became owners to a successful startup. SAR Inc., DBA Simply Affordable Roofing (SA Roofing) has celebrated its one-year anniversary.

Starting SA Roofing was a long time dream for Ekerson and his wife, Kendall. They have both been in roofing for a combined 35-plus years. Smith is no stranger to roofing either, having previously started and owned a roofing and floor coating business. Smith, along with his wife, Nalani, knew they wanted to pursue new avenues, so Ekerson and Smith joined forces. The two couples worked together to create a brand new experience for clients. 

The couples wanted to not only focus on keeping things as low cost as possible, but more importantly, have the whole experience be simple and easy for their clients. With their combined knowledge and varied experiences, they created an experience that offers a higher level of service with lower overhead.

“It has been an amazing year, and we are so thankful to everyone who has supported us," said Ekerson, who serves as president. "We have gotten to form so many new relationships, and work with a lot of really great people. We look forward to continued growth and providing the best experience possible for our clients next year." 

One of the ways SA Roofing has set out to demystify the industry is by educating clients about the process as a whole. Their website, social media channels and proposals help clients better understand the roof buying process. For example, through their social media, they define terms often used in the industry with graphics, photos, or video explanations in their “Tuesday Terminology” content. They provide thorough proposals that include detailed photos. Both Ekerson and Smith welcome questions from clients and are happy to share their knowledge whenever they get the chance.

"It truly is a blessing to work with customers that trust us to install quality roofs. It is a point of pride for us to provide customers a sense of security and peace when they finally see their new roof and this year brought countless opportunities to do just that. We take our mission very seriously to bring simplicity and clarity to an industry that has become needlessly complicated for customers, both residential and commercial, and we will continue this mission into 2023 and beyond.”
