Early in 2018, a seemingly innocuous question from a roofing consultant about why their client wasn’t getting service from their regular roofer caught Steve Little’s attention. And rightfully so – the question led the National Roofing Partners (NRP) CEO down a path that uncovered more than $1 million in missing money, and a trail of deceit and betrayal that shook the veteran businessman to his core.

Now that the three-year saga and legal battle to recoup the losses are over, he’s ready to talk about it publicly for the first time during the 2022 International Roofing Expo in New Orleans.

IRE 2022 Seminar Session

Title: How to Prevent Embezzling in Your Roofing Business
Speakers: Steve Little, CEO, National Roofing Partners; Kyrah Coker, Vice President of Finance, National Roofing Partners
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 11a.m.
Room: 205

“We have learned a lot that can help people manage their financial risk not only because of this unfortunate situation but from other areas of risk management that would make their company stronger and our industry better,” Little explained. “I've been encouraged by fellow owners and industry leaders to share our experience through this process.”

With the help of NRP’s Vice President of Finance, Kyrah Coker, Little will walk through how they discovered a high-level executive started their own roofing company to divert business away from NRP service providers, and misused corporate funds in collusion with the CFO. They’ll also break down the process of using forensic experts to gather the evidence needed to secure a guilty verdict from jurors in civil court.

As he has throughout his career, sharing his experiences with the industry – good and bad – is part of Little’s way of helping uplift the industry as a whole.

“Having participated in IRE and Best of Success for over a decade, I've learned to take a nugget from each session I've attended and apply it to make our business better,” he said. “So, I'm hoping to provide that nugget to each attendee of this session so they can use it to benefit their business.”
