CARY, N.C. – Reinforcing a passion for creating innovative, quality products that make beautiful homes and a commitment to the community, Ply Gem®, a leading manufacturer of building products, kicks off year two of the company’s Home for Good project. The project is designed to raise awareness, drive support and help build hundreds of homes with families in need of affordable housing. Through Home for Good, Ply Gem is partnering with Habitat for Humanity and three-time GRAMMY-award winner Darius Rucker as the 2017 project ambassador. Ply Gem is also leading “Affordable Housing Month” this May, through a social and grassroots educational campaign that encourages others throughout the nation to join the “Home for Good” movement and get involved.

The Home for Good project is a multi-year initiative that includes a donation of over $1 million of exterior building products and funds to support Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to call home. As part of the Home for Good project, Ply Gem is the presenting sponsor of Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz, a week-long campaign (June 5-9, 2017), in which Ply Gem and professional homebuilders will donate their time, muscle and talent to help Habitat raise awareness of the need for affordable housing. This year, homebuilders in more than 70 communities across the U.S. will volunteer to help build, rehab or repair more than 200 homes as part of the initiative.

“Ever since I was a young child, having a home and being safe has always been something sacred and special to me,” said Rucker. “I know how important this issue is, and being part of Ply Gem’s Home for Good project allows me to give back and give a “home” to so many who need it, on a national scale.”

“At Ply Gem, we have a passion for giving back to the community and share in the conviction that everyone deserves a place they can be proud to call home,” said Gary E. Robinette, chairman and CEO, Ply Gem Building Products. “During the month of May, June and all year-round, we’re asking for the public including homeowners and our professional builder, contractor and distributor partners — to join us on this mission to help make homes more affordable and accessible to those in need.”

Giving Back

Specific to professional homebuilders, contractors and distributors, Ply Gem is encouraging engagement in local communities nationwide. Customers can participate in the Home for Good project by raising awareness with grassroots marketing tools, including posters, brochures, counter cards and green wristbands. Through this initiative, Ply Gem is reminding its partners that together, the industry has the power to make a positive impact.

To help spread the word on Affordable Housing Month and the Home for Good project, Ply Gem welcomes everyone to:

  1. Change your Facebook profile picture with an Affordable Housing Month skin. Visit the Ply Gem page and click on "Try It" under the logoed post.
  2. Spread the word on Facebook and Twitter using the following hashtags: #AffordableHousingMonth and #HomeforGoodproject. To show appreciation, Ply Gem is recognizing weekly social share winners with Home for Good project swag or gift cards.
  3. Supporters may also contribute by volunteering time to a build or by donating funds, materials or tools.

Since its inception, Ply Gem — through its Home for Good project — has already donated building materials to help 300 Habitat families in more than 60 communities build their homes.
