Local team members from GAF recently joined forces with Cape Fear, N.C., Habitat for Humanity to support the organization’s annual Women Build event.
Alongside other volunteers and community partners, they assisted Habitat staff in constructing a home for a local kindergarten teacher and single mother of two in the Haven Place neighborhood of Castle Hayne, N.C., part of the Wilmington metro area.
More than two dozen employees from GAF’s Burgaw facility worked on various construction tasks, including wall raising; the company donated roofing materials for the project, GAF said in a news release.
Women Build is an annual initiative that brings together women and supporters to raise funds and help construct affordable homes for female-led families. No prior construction experience is required, and Habitat staff provide on-site guidance.
“As a team, we love partnering with Habitat to come out here and support our community,” said Rossy Gibson, senior human resources business partner at GAF.
“We’ve participated in Women Build for over five years, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute alongside Habitat and local volunteers to help families achieve safe, affordable homeownership,” she added.
GAF’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity is part of GAF Community Matters, GAF's social impact initiative, which focuses on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to help build resilient communities.
