GAF Donates New Roof to Soldier's Home in South Carolina on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

April 28, 2011
GAF Materials Corp. will contribute all roofing materials in this week’s episode of the long-running ABC network program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Working in Beaufort, S.C., the team is providing Marine Staff Sergeant Bill Dickinson’s family with a new home.

WAYNE, N.J. – GAF Materials Corp. will contribute all roofing materials in this week’s episode of the long-running ABC network program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Working in Beaufort, S.C., the team is providing Marine Staff Sergeant Bill Dickinson’s family with a new home. Staff Sgt. Dickinson was deployed last November and in his absence, the house where his wife and five children live continues to deteriorate due to mold and flood damage.

Staff Sgt. Dickinson has served as a member of the military for 17 years and is currently stationed half a world away from his wife India, and kids Grant, 16, Brianna, 17, Bailey, 10, Isabella, 8, and 1-year-old Sophia. Their home is falling apart due to spreading mold damage, bad electrical wiring, an inadequate foundation, and flood damage. All contractors who have been asked to evaluate the damage have reached the same conclusion: the home should be bulldozed.

In January, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition sent over Ty Pennington and his team to build a new house for the Dickinson family. The home will feature GAF’s new Camelot II Designer Shingles, the industry’s first truly affordable luxury shingle. The shingles incorporate GAF’s proprietary Advanced Protection technology, which offers improved performance, including superior wind resistance, while being more environmentally friendly due to lower unnecessary material usage. Camelot II shingles pass the industry’s two toughest wind tests: ASTM D3161 Class F 110 mph and ASTM D7158 Class H 150 mph.

“This is our fourth Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project in the past six months, and we are pleased to be given the opportunity to continue contributing to these life-changing projects,” stated Ted Marcopolus, vice president of marketing services at GAF.

The program will be airing nationally on the ABC network at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. For more information about GAF products, visit www.gaf.com.
