Columbia River Roofing of Gresham, Ore., is the largest installer of the Duro-Last roof system in the northwestern United States.

Columbia River Roofing is owned and operated by Vice President Darryl McCrory, President Eric Finnerty, and Business Development Director Jay Reid.

Finnerty said Columbia River is able to provide unparalleled service throughout the West. It was established in April of 1996 with one goal in mind: “Provide the highest quality service and latest roofing technology to our customers.”

“Focusing on the issues concerning the freezer and cold storage industry regarding ice build up and condensation over the last ten years, we developed the Vapor Armour™ system,” said Finnerty, who noted Vapor Armour is a patented vapor barrier/roof system with a 15-year NDL warranty on the vapor barrier as well as the roof system. “This is the only patented system of its kind.”

The Vapor Armour system is composed of materials provided by the Duro-Last Roofing Corporation of Saginaw, Mich. Taking advantage of Duro-Last pre-fabrication, Finnerty said tying the vapor barrier into a compatible Duro-Last roof system makes the Vapor Armour an “impenetrable vapor barrier/roof system allowing for expansion and contraction.”

“Once in place it will never fail, as it is not exposed to the sun’s ultra-violet rays, and will be reusable when the roof system requires replacement,” he said. “Duro-Last was a natural fit for our system due to the pre-fabrication, exceptional tear strength, flexibility and superior puncture resistance. The functionality is in the compatibility of the materials.”

Putting aside a sluggish economy, Columbia River Roofing recently completed a 120,000-square-foot barrel roof at Western Pacific Building Materials in Portland, Ore. Finnerty said the company removed the 22-gauge standing seam metal roof removed with chop saws and installed insulation and a 15-year NDL warranted Duro-Last roof system.

“Innovators lead an industry out of a recession,” Finnerty said. “To be successful in hard times requires developing a unique perspective on your business niche. By solving an ongoing problem in the Cold Storage Freezer Industry, Columbia River Roofing created Advanced Thermal Concepts (the manufacturer of Vapor Armour) and solidified a position as the industries foremost authority. Combing two construction process, the vapor barrier and the roof system is generating future business for us at an unparalleled rate.”

Finnerty said the company is fortunate to be invited to share the Vapor Armour story with the national network of Duro-Last representatives at the Duro-Last convention.

The annual Duro-Last convention is always a high point of Finnerty’s year. “The feeling of family permeates the Duro-Last way of doing business,” he said. “It was that unconditional family support that got us through a trying 2009, and the outlook for 2011 couldn’t be brighter.”

Finnerty sees an explosion of business, connecting with new friends throughout the United States.

“We are truly blessed to be given the vision, the network and support of the Duro-Last Corp. to help get us to where we want to go,” he said. “The Vapor Armour system has been received beyond our wildest dreams. We are currently developing a network of contractors across the nation to assist in solving the ice build up and condensation issue for our customers. There is a tremendous need in the food distribution industry for energy saving greater efficiency and product protection. We are fortunate to be able to provide all three.”
