Tubos Pipe Extensions: A Solution When ‘Extra Long’ is Required

By Roofing Contractor Staff

Extending vent stacks during re-roofing is a common practice. Sometimes, vents must be extended 24 inches or longer to meet local code, particularly in regions that receive excessive snowfall.

Rather than using no-hubs, ‘balancing’ new pipes on top of existing vent stacks, contractors could extend vent stacks with Tubos Pipe Extensions.

Tubos Vent Pipe Extensions says it is the only product in the roofing industry designed to extend existing vent stacks and comes in standard sizes to accommodate 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-inch cast iron or PVC/ABS vent stacks.

In an August 20 news release, Tubos says its secret to nearly two decades of growth and success is its six-inch internal ‘spice sleeve’ that fits snugly down the inside of the existing vent stack. This allows the Tubos unit to ‘sit’ properly on top of the vent stack — even if the stack is cracked or broken.

“Tubos Vent Stack Extensions have been engineered for this specific roofing application,” said Keven Morris, president of Tubos. “You can’t buy off the shelf ABS or PVC pipe that fits down the existing stack, making Tubos a great solution for roofers who need to extend vent stacks.”

“In nearly 20 years of manufacturing and supplying Tubos Vent Stack Extensions,” said Morris, “we’ve never had a warranty issue for water in the roofing assembly; it just does not happen.”

Tubos provides an easy and cost-effective solution for extending vent stacks on commercial buildings. When insulation is added during a re-roofing project to meet building code R-value requirements, the height of the vent stack over the roof is effectively shortened, frequently removing it from building or plumbing code compliance.

Tubos units are installed in four easy steps: measure, cut, seal, and flash. Plus, each 28-inch-long unit can be cut and used to extend two pipes, and extensions can be up to 16 inches long. They are ideal for use where a tapered system is added or a new lightweight insulating concrete deck is being poured.

In addition, when you need to extend the vent stack more than 16 inches, as in the photo above, you can simply cut the Tubos Vent Stack Extension and add another extension to the top. This will create a watertight extension that will not give in to harsh weather conditions.
