Hundreds of millions tons of asphalt are produced in the U.S. annually, virtually all of it used in paving and roofing. By making two popular Rapid Set® products – Non-Sag Sealant & Adhesive and Self-Leveling Sealant – available in the color black, CTS Cement Manufacturing Corp. now provides contractors and homeowners with professional-grade sealing and bonding solutions that outperform the competition in both applications.

Based on healthier solvent-free hybrid silane polyether technology, the nonshrink single-component products can be used on a wider range of substrates and to bond to a wider range of construction materials than competing sealants and adhesives. According to CTS Cement, the list includes virtually any surface – asphalt, brick, cement board, concrete, fiberglass, foam, glass, masonry, metal, rock, rubber, stone, vinyl siding, wood, and more.

They are also lauded as outlasting and outperforming silicone and polyurethane sealants by:

  • Providing stronger resistance to UV rays for longer service life in all climates.
  • Remaining flexible at low temperatures for application in subfreezing conditions.
  • Maintaining an air- and water-tight bond through freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or flaking.
  • Bonding to damp substrates and in damp weather; they don’t bubble or foam in the presence of moisture, which deteriorates sealant and adhesive integrity.

Roofing Construction and Repair

Black Rapid Set Non-Sag Sealant & Adhesive and Black Rapid Set Self-Leveling Sealant can be used on any material-type roof to waterproof gaps, holes, and penetrations; and to join dissimilar-material components such as galvanized steel flashings and clay (terracotta), concrete, and slate tiles. For example, owners seeking a watertight seal between building and gutter could apply the products to the back of metal or vinyl gutters before screwing the gutter into brick or wood.

In addition to asphalt shingles, the products bond to virtually any type of composite material used in residential, commercial, and industrial roofing: expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation, ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)-modified bitumen membranes, fiber-reinforced polymer or plastic (FRP) sheets, and polyvinylidene-fluoride (PVDF) finishes.

The products are flexible enough to expand and contract with these construction materials without compromising the building envelope.

Black Rapid Set Non-Sag Sealant & Adhesive, Black Rapid Set® Self-Leveling Sealant, Rapid Set® Asphalt Resurfacer, and Rapid Set® Asphalt Repair Mix are available at Home Depot in Building Materials. For more information, visit ctscement.com.
