GAF, Bama Roofing Donate Roof for Alabama Chamber Renovation

Community gathered to celebrate the new TPO roofing system

GAF helped mark the completion of a renovation of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where the manufacturer donated a new commercial roofing system installed by local contractor Bama Roofing.

GAF joined chamber officials and community leaders Sept. 10 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house celebrating the renovated workforce and community development center.

As part of the project, GAF donated a fully adhered EverGuard TPO roofing system. GAF-certified contractor Bama Roofing installed the system to protect the renovated facility, which is designed to support workforce development, local businesses and economic development programs throughout West Alabama.

"We were excited to partner with Bama Roofing to donate and install a new roof for this facility and support an organization that does so much for local workforce development and businesses in the area," said Scott Baldwin, plant manager for GAF's Tuscaloosa facility.

Baldwin said the project reflects the company's longstanding connection to the Tuscaloosa community. GAF has operated a manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa for nearly 50 years. The plant employs more than 160 people and, according to the company, produces enough roofing materials each day to cover more than 300 homes.

"This investment helps ensure our building will continue to support businesses, workers and organizations that drive our local economy here in Tuscaloosa and across West Alabama," said Kyle South, president and CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. "GAF has been a valued partner in our community for decades, and this project is another example of their commitment to creating a lasting impact in West Alabama."

The renovated facility houses the Chamber and West AlabamaWorks and serves as a regional hub for several nonprofit organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation and Junior Achievement.

The roofing donation follows several other GAF community projects in the region. During the past decade, the company said it has produced and donated roofing materials for more than 100 homes through Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa. GAF has also worked with Habitat for Humanity and Strengthen Alabama Homes on a FORTIFIED roofing initiative designed to help homes withstand severe weather and donated a low-slope roofing system for the Hay College Center at Stillman College.

The projects are part of GAF Community Matters, the manufacturer's social impact initiative focused on using its roofing products, expertise and resources to support communities.
