The volunteer effort comes as GAF continues developing its new shingle manufacturing facility in Newton. The plant is expected to begin production in 2027 and reach full production capacity by mid-2029, creating more than 130 skilled jobs in the region.

“We're proud to support Habitat for Humanity and the important work they do to help families achieve resilient, safe and stable housing in Harvey County and across the country,” said Chris Peetz, chief operations officer at GAF.

GAF said its involvement in the region also includes volunteer projects and roof donations in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Harvey County and Habitat for Humanity Wichita.

The roofing manufacturer is also investing in the local skilled-trades workforce. In partnership with Rhoden Roofing, GAF created the Promise Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to four students enrolling in WSU Tech’s Construction Technology program.

The program is intended to help students pursue careers in construction and related trades while strengthening the pipeline of skilled workers in the Newton area.

The initiatives are part of GAF Community Matters, the company’s social impact program focused on using its roofing expertise, products and resources to support communities.
