The roofing industry is built on determination, teamwork and a commitment to supporting others, and those qualities were on full display during the 2026 Pushups for Heroes challenge in July.
Organized by Jacob Piazza, director of roofing and repair services at Nearmap, the challenge brought together roofing professionals from across the industry with a shared goal: raise awareness and support for veterans and first responders while promoting physical and mental health and community involvement.
What began as an ambitious challenge to complete 25,000 pushups quickly grew into an industry-wide movement, resulting in an impressive 36,368 pushups completed in 30 days, proving what can happen when roofing professionals unite behind a meaningful cause.
The final scoreboard for the challenge was topped by Greg Bloom of QXO, who recorded 6,575 pushups. He was followed by:
- Steven James, James Roofing Services Inc. — 5,000
- Brianna Stemple, Mission Metals Manufacturing — 4,409
- Brandon Cox, Owens Corning — 3,100
- Jacob Piazza, Nearmap — 3,098
- Tyler Allwood, Eagle Roofing Products — 3,000
- Matt Criswell, WeatherShield Roofing Group — 3,000
- Bo Copland, Hogtown Roofing and Construction — 3,000
- Matt Leonard, Architectural Sheet Metal — 2,641
- John Campbell, Eagle Roofing Products — 2,564
H3 is a nonprofit organization that provides safe spaces for counseling, peer support and outdoor adventure therapy for veterans, first responders and their families at no cost. Its mission is to bridge the gap in access to proactive mental health care by recognizing the unique challenges heroes face and providing innovative solutions, community-driven action and unwavering determination to empower them to heal, grow and thrive.
Each member who participated in the challenge also found a sponsor for the event, raising $4,100 for H3.
During FRSA’s September Board and Committee meetings, Brittney Smith and BJ Isom from H3 spoke about the programs and support the organization offers heroes.
