North Country Slate’s Lightweight Slate Roof System Wins Award

The new innovation wins a Readers’ Choice Product Award from The Construction Specifier

The Construction Specifier announced today that North Country Slate’s Lightweight Slate Roof System has been named a Winner in the Building Envelope Systems category in the magazine’s inaugural Readers’ Choice Product Awards.

Designed for both new construction and reroofing, the system is roughly 40 percent lighter than traditional slate, weighing less than 6 lbs. per square foot, and pairs slate shingles with a high-density polyethylene interlayment that serves as a weather and UV barrier while reducing the amount of slate required. The system meets or exceeds FM 4473 Class 3 hail-impact standards, UL 790 Class A fire resistance, and Miami-Dade County’s 110-mph wind and rain test standard.

Winners in the Readers’ Choice Product Awards are determined entirely by vote among The Construction Specifier’s readership. Every eligible entry was presented online for review during the voting period, with no separate judging panel selecting results in advance. This recognition was announced in the magazine’s September 2026 issue.
