ASTM International Honors James Kirby with Roofing Award
Kirby was recognized for distinguished research contributions and outstanding dedication to committee D08

ASTM International’s roofing and waterproofing committee (D08) gave the William C. Cullen award to James Kirby for the year 2026.
Kirby was recognized for distinguished research contributions and outstanding dedication to committee D08 and the roofing community, and for consistent commitment to the performance of roofing systems as demonstrated by his extensive technical articles and presentations.
“Receiving the William C. Cullen Award is a real honor,” says Kirby. “Being included among the past recipients is both humbling and inspiring. I owe a great deal to the mentors who provided guidance and support along the way, and I am sincerely grateful to ASTM and the D08 Nominating Committee for this recognition.”
A member of ASTM International since 1986, Kirby has been previously honored by the committee with three Awards of Appreciation (2005, 2006, 2026).
A graduate of the University of Illinois, where he received his Bachelor of Science (1987) and Master of Science degree (1989), Kirby has decades of experience in the roofing industry. He currently works as an architect – technical communications, industry relations and product sustainability at Siplast. He’s been part of Siplast since 2023 and has previously held positions at GAF and the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association.
In addition to ASTM, Kirby is a member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
