The Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA) has released updated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for polyiso insulation products, providing industry-averaged environmental impact data across North America.
The third-party verified, ISO-compliant reports cover polyiso roof insulation, wall insulation and high-density roof cover boards. The EPDs assess impacts across a full product life cycle, based on a 75-year building service life, and incorporate manufacturing data from 2023.
EPDs are standardized documents used to disclose the environmental impacts of building materials, helping architects, specifiers and sustainability professionals make informed decisions.
PIMA said the updated reports include scaling factors to calculate impacts based on insulation thickness and account for roof replacement over a building’s lifespan.
“The end result is EPD reports that provide an accurate and comprehensive look at the impacts and advantages of polyiso products used throughout the construction sector,” said Marcin Pazera, the association’s senior director of technical affairs.
The reports are independently verified and published in NSF’s EPD database. PIMA said the data can support compliance with green building programs such as LEED and other life cycle assessment-based frameworks.
