Rhoden Roofing, GAF fund scholarships for WSU Tech students
Program supports construction workforce pipeline

Wichita, Kan.-based Rhoden Roofing has partnered with roofing products manufacturer GAF to fund scholarships for students enrolled in Wichita State University’s Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology construction program. The initiative will provide four scholarships of $1,250 each, totaling $5,000, to students pursuing careers in construction.
The funding is intended to help offset education costs and support workforce development in the region. Students in the program receive training in areas including safety, framing, blueprint reading and job estimating, preparing them for residential and commercial construction careers.
John Rhoden, owner of Rhoden Roofing, said the effort reflects the company’s focus on education and workforce growth.
“Supporting WSU Tech allows us to extend that commitment beyond our company and invest in the next generation of construction professionals,” he said.
GAF said the partnership aligns with its community outreach efforts and regional expansion.
“Investing in local construction education is not only meaningful; it’s essential,” said Jim Durkin, the company’s chief customer experience officer.
WSU Tech officials said the scholarships will help remove financial barriers for students entering the field.
“Their investment strengthens our mission by removing financial barriers and creating real pathways for students to succeed,” said Jennifer Seymour, vice president of general education and applied technologies.
The program aims to bolster the pipeline of skilled workers entering the construction industry in south-central Kansas.
