84 Lumber Marks Women in Construction Week
Company highlights three female leaders

84 Lumber is marking Women in Construction Week, March 1–7, by highlighting three female employees and their career paths in the building materials industry.
The Pennsylvania-based supplier, which operates 320 facilities in 34 states, said the initiative aims to promote opportunities for women across construction and building materials.
“Women in Construction Week is about more than recognition; it's about visibility, opportunity, and momentum,” said Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. “Supporting women at every stage of their careers strengthens our company and strengthens our industry.”
The company spotlighted Allison Young, director of regional accounts for the Western division, based in Denver; Isabelle Schroeder, a customer sales manager in South Boston; and Alexandria Barber, a manager trainee in Ballston Spa, New York.
Young joined 84 Lumber nine months ago after working in real estate, purchasing for a national builder and manufacturing. She said moving closer to the construction side of the business reshaped her career.
“I went from selling the finished product to working alongside the people who actually make that product possible,” Young said.
Schroeder, who joined the company in 2020 after meeting employees while in college, said she initially faced skepticism from customers in a male-dominated field.
“It gave me the drive to prove myself, to prove that I belonged,” she said.
Barber, four months into the company’s management training program, said representation plays a role in attracting more women to the industry.
“Every time I take on new responsibilities or succeed in a role where women have traditionally been underrepresented, it feels like I am opening the door a little wider,” Barber said.
As part of the recognition, 84 Lumber is also promoting its management training program and broader workforce initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities in construction.
