Malarkey Hits Major Milestone with 500th Donated Roof
Roofing manufacturer partners with Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity to provide sustainable housing solutions

Malarkey Roofing Products donated its 500th roof to Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, marking over a decade of partnership in providing safe, sustainable housing for local residents.
The latest donation features 30 squares of Malarkey Vista shingles in Weathered Wood Plus, equipped with the company's NEX Polymer Modified technology designed to withstand Oklahoma's severe weather conditions. The high-performance shingles carry wind warranties up to 130 mph and are rated Class 4 for hail impact resistance.
"It always makes me very proud to see a freshly installed Malarkey roof, but this one is especially heartwarming because of our team's connection to the cause," said Malarkey President Dale Rushing.
The partnership began in 2012 when Malarkey opened its Oklahoma City manufacturing plant. Since then, company employees have volunteered at construction sites while providing roofing materials for Habitat homes across the region.
Beyond weather protection, the donated shingles deliver significant environmental benefits. The 500 roofs donated to date have diverted approximately 1,375 rubber tires and 860,000 plastic bags from landfills through the use of upcycled materials in the NEX asphalt formula. The shingles also feature 3M Smog-Reducing Granules that improve local air quality, equivalent to planting 550 trees.
"We couldn't ask for more dedicated partners than Malarkey Roofing Products," said Ann Felton Gilliland, chair and CEO of Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity. "They sponsored the home build, helped construct the house, and donated all the roofing materials."
The milestone comes as demand for affordable housing continues to grow. Malarkey and Central Oklahoma Habitat completed their 400th roof in 2023, adding 100 more homes in just two years. In 2024, to meet increasing demand, Malarkey constructed a new manufacturing facility in Franklin, Ind.
For new homeowner Julie Q., who received the 500th donated roof, the partnership represents a fresh start after overcoming substance abuse and homelessness. "Having this home means the world to me," she said. "If you had told me seven years ago I would be purchasing my very own brand new home, I would have told you that you are crazy."
