March is National Ladder Safety Month, and with falls from height continuing to be the leading cause of death and serious injuries for roofing contractors across the country, we felt it's important to share some vital information from the American Ladder Institute.

Every year over 300 people die in ladder-related accidents, and thousands suffer disabling injuries. The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting safe ladder use. The organization believes every ladder accident is preventable, but it will take better training, awareness and continued innovation in safety planning and product design to get there. Throughout the month, the ALI worked toward the following goals:

  1. Increase the number of completed safety training sessions on its website
  2. Decrease incidence of OSHA-reported ladder-related fatalities
  3. Lower the rankings of ladder-related safety citations on OSHA’s yearly Top 10 Citations list
  4. Increase the number of in-person ladder trainings
  5. Increase the number of companies that inspect and properly dispose of old, damaged, or obsolete ladders
