Content Is King: Don’t Overlook Perimeter Edge Metal

Post-hurricane reports by the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) point to the perimeter and corners as the most vulnerable points of low-slope roofs. Why is it, then, that perimeter edge metal is often value engineered out of the system? The perimeter edge represents a relatively small part of a building’s overall cost, but it carries a significant risk of liability. When you see statistics that cite edge failures being responsible for 60 percent of roof warranty claims, the point is clear: You don’t want to take the edge metal for granted.
