Reset

By Al Levi
August 9, 2009
If you moved across the street and started over ...

Sometimes I tell my clients to periodically envision themselves closing the doors at their existing company and deciding to reopen across the street. That way they learn to think of it as hitting the reset button and getting a fresh start. Amazingly, things become much clearer! They’re instantly free of defending and trying to patch up what’s been broken at the core of their company for years.

If you’re willing to do this mental exercise, you’ll be able to let go and get a fresh start, too.

So, if you were to start fresh, what would you do differently? Here are just two of the things I suggest you focus on:
    1. Decide who your Missionary Techs are and who will never become one of them. A Missionary Tech is someone you’d love to clone because they have the right habits when it comes to being part of a team. They have great sales and communication skills, great operational habits and they’re technically superior.

The awful truth is you might not have any!

    2. Decide who your “Missionary” Inside Staff are and who will never become one of them. A Missionary Inside Person is someone you’d love to clone because they’re good team players. They have attention to detail, they’re flexible when it comes to working assignments, like an Accounts Receivable Person, Accounts Payable Person, Customer Service Rep or Dispatcher, because they have pride and love learning to do more.

Once again, you might not have any!
Whether it’s Missionary Techs or Missionary Inside Staff, you need to be honest in your assessment of what you’ve got today and begin to train those you can make into Missionaries and let the others go. This is the right time because the economy is providing you with the perfect opportunity to do this.

OK, what’s been holding you back from building Missionary Staff? Most likely it’s a lack of documents systems, formalized training and a lack of accountability. Only with acceptance of these facts can you make the fundamental changes for the better at your company.

One more thing: you need to get started today.

The more systems you have documented and in place for both the outside staff and the inside staff the better they’ll become. The training process will be more effective and the learning curve will be easier to negotiate in less time than ever before. Wiling people with these tools soon become the Missionary Staff you’ll love to manage.

Remember, it’s all about building the right culture at your “new” company located across the street.

Give Me 60 Minutes And I'll Show You The Secrets To Running A Profitable Service Business ... Even During A Recession!

Al Levi is a consultant and a contributing editor to PM magazine and blogs for many other BNP trade magazines. He is now presenting a free online video event called the “60-Minute Recession Solution Online Video Seminar”.

For the first time ever, you’ll hear from him and just a few of the many contractors who have engaged the power of his Power! Programs. They’re happy to share how this dynamic program worked for them and how it is still working for them - especially in these tough economic times.

“This program has helped dozens of business owners I’ve worked with one-on-one,” says Al. “The Power! Plans have also helped. But now, thanks to new technology, I’ll be able to help many more contractors with my 12-month Power! Plan Coaching Program than ever before.” This program will include the building of your own customizable Operating Power! manuals.

These programs have been working for Al in his family business for years and in his clients’ businesses. Now they are reaping the results. Click on the following link to see and hear for yourself: www.60MinuteRecessionSolution.com.
