Like many others, Liz Garza entered the roofing industry by way of family. More unique, it was not a generational through line beckoning Garza to give it a try: she married into it.

Although initially resistant when asked by her husband to join his company in 2017, her interest built as she rode with him to bid and oversee various jobs.

“I really wanted to learn everything there is to know about the roofing industry, so I did that for about six weeks before I said okay,” Garza said. “I never looked back.”

Five years later, not only has Garza found her place in the sun — as chief culture officer for the Tennessee-based My Roofing Crew — she is taking on leadership roles in National Women in Roofing; she even started her own brand that encourages women to take pride in their roofing careers.

It’s that passion that made her an easy choice for RC to name her as a 2023 Young Gun – a roofing professional age 40 and under who is making a difference in the industry.

In this video, Garza describes how she went from uninterested to diehard roofer, how she has leveraged her interpersonal talents to help My Roofing Crew become an award-winning contractor, and how she promotes diversity with NWiR and “She’s in Roofing.”

“I joined National Women in Roofing to learn about roofing … but what I learned was a lot about myself. I found myself, I found that surrounding yourself with the right women and like-minded women is the only fuel you need to be successful,” Garza said.
