OSHA Launches First-Ever National Emphasis Program on Heat Hazards
WASHINGTON, D.C. — For the first time, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched a National Emphasis Program (NEP) to protect millions of workers from heat illness and injuries. Through the program, OSHA will conduct heat-related workplace inspections before workers suffer completely preventable injuries, illnesses or, even worse, fatalities.
Department of Labor Secretary Marty Walsh joined Vice President Kamala Harris at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 Training Center in Philadelphia on April 12 to announce the new enforcement program.
