2013 Case Study

New Heritage® IR Impact Resistant Shingles Take Beauty and Protection to New Heights

July 15, 2013

Introducing UL 21218 Class 4 Impact Resistant Shingles

Now you can get the timeless look of a wood shake roof with enhanced performance that stands up to Mother Nature. New TAMKO® Heritage IR impact resistant shingles are designed to resist the impact of a 2-inch steel ball dropped from a height of 20 feet at time of manufacture. This reinforced performance has earned Heritage IR shingles a UL2218 Class 4 rating for impact resistance.*

Wood-Shake Beauty. Reinforced Construction.

Heritage IR shingles have enhanced impact resistance that comes from a fiberglass mat and non-woven polyester fabric reinforcement on the back. Additional strength is provided by a fine pattern of thermally bonded polyester fibers throughout. It all adds up to a beautifully distinctive shingle that performs to UL standards for impact.

Of course, Heritage IR shingles are created with signature TAMKO Heritage quality, including Shadowtone design for the depth and dimension of wood shakes, a random-cut sawtooth pattern that eliminates roofing zippers, a heavy-duty fiberglass mat, weathering grade asphalt coating, strong laminated bond, and a self-sealing strip to further enhance wind resistance.

All Heritage IR shingles are made with unique color blends that create the rugged beauty of natural wood shakes and enhance a home’s curb appeal. Available colors include: Weathered Wood, Natural Timber, Thunderstorm Grey, Rustic Black, Olde English Pewter, Rustic Slate, and Rustic Cedar.

Heritage IR Shingles**

  • 30-year Limited Warranty
  • 15-year Full Start Protection Period
  • UL listed for Class A Fire Resistance, along with Algae Relief-Algae Cleaning Limited Warranty
  • 15-year Limited Warranty against damage from winds up to 110 mph, up to 130 mph when installed using High Wind Application
  • Meet ASTM D 3462 at time of manufacture

Better Protection Can Mean Lower Insurance Rates

Installing Heritage IR shingles may qualify homeowners in some states for a reduction in insurance premiums. Homeowners should talk to their insurance agent before purchase to determine eligibility.

Longest Up-Front Protection

TAMKO Heritage Series shingles offer the longest up-front protection available in roofing systems. This is the critical period of time in which both shingles and the labor to install them are covered at 100 percent. The Full Start period on Heritage IR shingles is 15 years, enabling you to provide better peace of mind and quality assurance to your homeowners. To find out how your customers can qualify, visit tamko.com/LongestUpfrontProtection.

*Compliance testing for UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance occurs in a laboratory setting and may not be equivalent to real-world exposure to weathering conditions, including hail storms. TAMKO does not warrant against damage by hail. See TAMKO’s Limited Warranty for complete details.
