BETHESDA, Md. — Johns Manville, which is calling 2012 “JM’s Year of EPDM”, is joining with Firestone Building Products and Carlisle SynTec as a member of ERA (the EPDM Roofing Association). For the last decade, ERA has been a leader in providing the construction and roofing communities with current data documenting the many benefits of EPDM roofing systems. Johns Manville is the most recent entry into the EPDM marketplace and began shipping EPDM product from its Milan, Ohio facility this month.
“ERA has a long-track record of success in educating EPDM consumers who use our product, and creating a fair and balanced regulatory environment for those of us who manufacture the product,” said Kaisa Johnson, JM’s EPDM product manager. “We welcome the opportunity to become part of this effort.” EPDM is one of the most frequently used roofing systems in the country.
“For the past decade, we have worked through ERA with our colleagues at Carlisle SynTec to create an environment where we can market our products on a level-playing field that has benefited all of us. We welcome JM to ERA to help us with this effort and we look forward to their full participation as members of our team,” said John Geary, vice president of marketing at Firestone Building Products, and Chairman of ERA’s Board of Directors.
ERA has been an industry leader in investing in state-of-the-art detailed studies focusing on the sustainability of EPDM. “Johns Manville’s entry into the EPDM marketplace is a sign of the demand for our product and optimism about its long-term growth,” said Ellen Thorp, associate executive director of ERA. “When you look at the data generated by our Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) study as well as our Long-term Service Life (LTSL) study, EPDM is demonstrated to be a product with enduring benefits to the environment.”
