PERTH AMBOY, N.J. - Englert Inc., a producer of rainware and metal roofing products and accessories, and Dawn Solar Systems Inc., a developer and manufacturer of solar thermal systems for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial structures, announced that Englert has become a stocking authorized distributor of Dawn Solar’s systems with installation and service being provided by a network of authorized Englert solar thermal installers.

Together, Englert and Dawn Solar will be able to provide customers with an integrated solar thermal roofing system including pumps, tank and controls for water, space and process heating applications. Distribution will be available throughout North America. The system is available for both new roof and reroofing applications.

Because the Englert UltraCool, metal roof is an integral part of the solar heat collection process, both the roofing and the solar thermal components are eligible for a 30 percent federal investment tax credit and for accelerated depreciation under the federal Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) - for both residential and commercial solar installations.

The Dawn Solar thermal system is mounted under the Englert standing seam metal roofing panels which act as a component of the solar thermal system. The roofing panels conduct solar energy (as heat) to the one-inch thick collector array installed just below the roof.

The solar thermal energy is then transferred from the roof to conventional heat and distribution system through a glycol, protected, closed loop recirculating system. The solar thermal energy harvested offsets fossil fuels and electricity used for many water, space and process heating applications.

Because the roofing material will radiate heat after it reaches a certain temperature, the system is self-regulating, preventing overheating and component damage when the system is inactive for extended periods of time. The same thermal technology can be reversed at night to provide building and process cooling, or, in the wintertime, sending warm liquid back to a snow covered roof where the standing seam metal heats up, melting snow quickly and efficiently Englert’s network of installers will also have the capability to top off the integrated solar system with the installation of Englert’s SunNet photovoltaic (BIPV) thin film laminates that convert solar energy into electricity. The Englert standing seam system provides the critical platform for the PV laminates to function optimally.

Dawn Solar thermal systems and the SunNet PV laminate interact synergistically. As the solar thermal system removes heat from the roof, it cools the PV system which improves the performance of the PV system while, at the same time, reducing the heating and cooling loads on a building.
