Follansbee Park, Follansbee, W. Va., a monument of pride and dedication to hundreds of Follansbee Steel employees in the 1930s, has been renovated with a Follansbee Steel metal roof nearly 70 years later.

During the Depression era, unemployed Follansbee Steel workers were given the opportunity to work by the Welfare & Unemployment Committee and the citizens of Follansbee. Donations collected from local schools, churches, and organizations were used to provide wages for the employees to construct Follansbee Park-a municipal park and swimming pool. The original pool was replaced years later and is still a focal point in the community today.

Beginning in August 2004, more than 20,000-square-feet of Follansbee® KlassicKolors® in Aegean Blue was specified for the roof renovations of the main pool, pool building, maintenance garage, filter room, chlorine room, and three shelters at Follansbee Park. Blue is the city of Follansbee's theme color and is used on the water department and other projects within the city. The local middle school's colors are also blue and white. Thus, two additional shelters in the park that previously had Follansbee Steel roofs installed were painted with the Aegean Blue to match the newly renovated roofs.

"It is great to do business with a local company like Follansbee Steel who cares about the community and offers an outstanding roofing product," notes John DeStefano, Follansbee city manager. "We have received great feedback from residents who are glad to hear we are renovating with local products.

Follansbee Steel is well known in the community and everyone seems to be very pleased with the new park."

All of the renovation work for Follansbee Park was done by the city of Follansbee's maintenance and street departments.
