Benjamin Obdyke Names George Caruso CEO as Dave Campbell Retires
Campbell concludes a 45-year career but remains chairman as longtime executive Caruso takes leadership of the employee-owned building envelope manufacturer

Benjamin Obdyke has announced a leadership transition more than four decades in the making. CEO Dave Campbell retired June 30 after 45 years with the company and will remain Chairman of the Board.
Effective July 1, President George Caruso became President and CEO.
Campbell joined Benjamin Obdyke in 1980 as controller, representing the third generation of Campbell family ownership after three generations of Obdyke family leadership. He became president in 1995 and CEO in 2011.
During his tenure, the company expanded from a specialty building products business into a recognized provider of building science-driven solutions for high-performance homes. Company leaders say Campbell’s most lasting contribution was creating a culture focused on helping employees succeed.
“Dave’s strength has been putting our people in positions where they can succeed, giving them the latitude to do so, and knowing he didn’t need to be the smartest person in the room,” Caruso said.
That philosophy helped shape the company’s 2023 transition to 100% employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Campbell championed the ESOP as a way to preserve Benjamin Obdyke’s culture and independence.
“My personal mission statement that guides me through everything is helping people reach their full potential,” Campbell said. “I get the greatest pleasure out of seeing what small piece I had in helping someone flourish.”
Industry partners also credit Campbell with building a culture that distinguished Benjamin Obdyke in the construction products market.
“From a building science and product development standpoint, Benjamin Obdyke has been at the forefront for many years,” said Harry Lund, vice president of purchasing for Coastal Forest Products. “However, where Obdyke really shines is the culture. This has always been their secret sauce.”
Caruso steps into the CEO role after serving as president since February 2025 and previously spending five years as chief operating officer. During that time, he oversaw growth initiatives, helped launch products including HydroGap SA self-adhered drainable housewrap and VaporDry SA self-adhered roofing underlayment, and supported the transition to employee ownership.
“George’s area of focus — our people and our products — has been the driver of our business,” Campbell said. “He is a clear thinker, open to feedback and confident enough to know which questions to ask.”
Caruso has spent more than 20 years with Benjamin Obdyke and said the company’s foundation will remain intact as it enters its next chapter.
“We’ve laid out a great foundation for growth,” Caruso said. “Now it’s about thinking a little bigger and challenging ourselves while maintaining the DNA that has made us successful.”
Campbell said he is confident the company will continue growing under its new leadership.
“I look forward to watching Benjamin Obdyke continue to grow, not just financially, but in the legacy of the people,” he said.
