National Roofing Week Highlights Veteran Roof Donations Across the U.S.
From veteran roof donations to community partnerships, we highlight contractors across the country are using their expertise to make a difference

National Roofing Week, held June 7-13, celebrates the essential role roofing professionals play in protecting homes and businesses while highlighting the industry's commitment to service and community involvement. Across the country, contractors, distributors and manufacturers are going beyond the jobsite to support veterans and homeowners in need through roof donations and charitable initiatives.
1. Tennessee Contractors Unite to Help Veteran After Contractor Dispute
When Clarksville, Tenn., veteran Keith Cherry found himself without a completed roofing project after paying a contractor for work that never began, local roofing companies stepped in to help.
Windstar Roofing, Action Roofing and ABC Supply partnered to provide Cherry with a new roof at no cost, donating labor and materials after local media brought attention to his situation. The effort helped relieve months of financial and emotional stress for Cherry and his family while demonstrating the impact local roofing companies can have when homeowners face unexpected hardship.
2. Owens Corning's Roof Deployment Project Continues Its Mission
One of the industry's largest charitable roofing initiatives continues to deliver free roofs to military veterans nationwide.
Most recently, Army veteran Frankie Fisher of North Carolina received a roof replacement through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a partnership involving Owens Corning, Purple Heart Homes and HRH Roofing. Since launching in 2016, the program has provided more than 800 free roofs to veterans and military families nationwide.
3. Skyline Exterior Group Donates Roof to Injured Veteran
North Carolina-based Skyline Exterior Group recently donated labor and installed a new roof for Army veteran Grady Bendel, who lost a leg after an improvised explosive device attack while serving in Afghanistan.
The project was completed with support from GAF and Veterans Bridge Home and reflects Skyline's broader commitment to giving back through community service initiatives. The roof replacement provided critical home improvements for a veteran who had already overcome significant challenges following his military service. Skyline said the donation was part of its initiative to provide a roof to a veteran or first responder for every 100 roofs sold.
4. SETX Roofing Pros Launches Operation Overwatch
Texas contractor SETX Roofing Pros has formalized its charitable efforts through Operation Overwatch, an annual roof giveaway program for disabled veterans.
Each year, the company selects a veteran through a nomination process and provides a complete roof replacement at no cost. The program's inaugural recipient, a Navy veteran facing mobility challenges, received a roof valued at approximately $42,000, allowing the family to redirect funds toward accessibility improvements and other critical home repairs.
