CANONSBURG, Pa. — On Dec. 20, CentiMark Corporation achieved an important milestone — the first commercial roofing and flooring contractor in North America to achieve over $1 billion in sales through organic growth.

CentiMark was founded in 1968 by Edward B. Dunlap, now chairman. The company's first-year sales was $98,500. The company achieved $1 million in 1974, $10 million in 1984, $100 million in 1994, $500 million in 2012, $800 million in 2020 and $1 billion in 2021.

“When we changed the company name to CentiMark in 1987, ‘Centi’ represented 100 — and, that was my goal — $100 million in sales,” said Dunlap. “I always knew that we could ultimately achieve $1 billion dollars in sales and become the first roofing and flooring contractor to reach that marker. After we sold $100 million in 1994, we proudly achieved the billion dollar goal 27 years later.

“I have to thank my son, Tim Dunlap [president and CEO], for his leadership of the company since 2003. I am grateful to all CentiMark associates, vendors and customers who have worked hard and supported our business for 53 years. CentiMark associates are dedicated, hard working and loyal. And, we have the best salesforce in any industry.”

CentiMark's achievements have kept it in RC's Top 100 list for many years, where in 2009 it earned the second spot with $420 million in revenue. It took the top spot in the following year, and in the 2021 list, it retained its hold on that top spot with $813.8 million in sales from 2020.

Tim Dunlap said the historic achievement was hinted at 19 years ago when the company redesigned its logo. The capital 'M' represents the Roman numeral for 1 billion.

“We are so proud of this unparalleled achievement," said Tim. "Since I was 8 years old, I watched my dad [Ed Dunlap] build this company and he not only achieved but exceeded all of his goals and dreams. Not many companies have had the opportunity to transform the commercial roofing and flooring industries as profoundly as CentiMark.

"Our CentiMark associates have been motivated by that message to achieve, as represented in our logo.”

CentiMark’s growth over the past seven decades is a result of organic geographical expansion of office locations, starting with the first office in Pittsburgh, Pa., to 95 offices throughout North America. CentiMark’s mark in the roofing industry has been a Single Source Warranty for workmanship and materials, a formidable National Accounts Program, an exceptional regional salesforce, a technology-driven customer service program with 24/7 emergency roof leak service, distinct crews for reroofing and roof leak service and an innovative commercial flooring division, QuestMark, featuring polished concrete, urethanes, coatings and resurfacers.

“CentiMark attracts and retains the best and brightest people in the roofing and flooring industries," said Tim Dunlap. "We’re a family-owned company and our associates are part owners through an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) established in 1988 to reward associates for their dedication and hard work. Our roofers are recognized nationally by the National Roofing Contractor Association (NRCA) for their safety initiatives, customer service, quality workmanship and community engagement.”

While roofing and flooring is CentiMark's business, CentiMark and the Dunlap family are well known for their philanthropy. CentiMark associates volunteer in their respective communities throughout North America. CentiMark’s financial success has enabled the company to enhance these efforts.

In 2021, CentiMark Corporation and CentiMark Foundation donated to numerous nonprofit organizations throughout North America including: Dunlap Family Outpatient Center, St. Clair Health, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Dunlap Family Athletic & Convocation Center, St. Vincent’s College, Latrobe, Pa.; Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; Make-A-Wish; Ronald McDonald House Charities; The Salvation Army; The Red Cross; Goodwill Industries; local food banks, homeless shelters and domestic violence programs; veterans organizations; senior citizens programs; animal humane societies; student scholarships; and school supplies and backpacks for students.

“We’ve worked hard to achieve our goal of $1 billion dollars in sales,” said Tim Dunlap. “Almost every sales associate at CentiMark has learned how to sell roofing and flooring from the ultimate salesman — my dad, Ed Dunlap. Our success is driven by him and all of the hard work of our CentiMark associates over the years. CentiMark looks forward to our continued growth providing solutions for our customers’ roofing and flooring needs, partnering with vendors who are leaders in their disciplines and attracting and retaining the best associates.”
