Construction Fasteners Inc., Reading, Pa., and SFS Stadler, Heerbrugg, Switzerland, announced that SFS has acquired CFI, scheduled to be finalized in early January 2002.

SFS is a leading European producer of engineered fasteners and fastening systems and currently operates businesses in 20 countries worldwide, including its current U.S. manufacturing operations in Medina, Ohio. Construction Fasteners is a leading producer of fasteners for the metal building panel industry in the United States and is a major player in the commercial flat-roof fastener markets around the world.

The headquarters of the combined business will be at CFI’s Reading, Pa., offices. The existing SFS location in Medina, Ohio, will focus on the production of precision formed part and special fasteners, primarily for the automotive, trucking and hardware industries. Michael Mullen, CFI’s vice president and chief financial officer, will head the consolidated U.S. fasteners operations as president of the company, which will operate under the new name SFS Intec Inc.
