Survey: 23% Plan to Reroof in 2026
Home upgrades drive roofing demand

A new national survey finds many U.S. homeowners are prioritizing home improvement projects in 2026, with one in five saying they made New Year’s resolutions focused on upgrading their homes rather than personal habits.
The survey of 2,000 homeowners, conducted on behalf of building products manufacturer TAMKO, found that 43% completed renovations in the past year and 32% plan to renovate in 2026. Among those planning projects, 65% expect this year to be their biggest yet for home improvements.
Interior renovations top the list, with nearly 60% planning updates inside the home. Landscaping projects were cited by 43% of respondents, followed by exterior painting (33%), building a deck or patio (28%) and re-roofing (23%).
Curb appeal remains a key motivator. Thirty percent of respondents said they are renovating to improve their home’s appearance, while another 30% said their home feels outdated. Overall, 77% said curb appeal is important to them.
Nearly one-third of homeowners reported they have already contacted contractors, purchased materials or finalized renovation plans. Others remain in the planning stages, with 23% considering options and 12% maintaining a list of desired upgrades.
“These findings reflect how strongly homeowners connect personal fulfillment with their living spaces,” said Chris Freeborg, vice president and chief marketing, communications and product development officer at TAMKO.
The survey also found that neighborhood activity plays a role in renovation decisions. More than a quarter of respondents said they drew inspiration from nearby homes, and a similar share said neighbors were influenced by their own upgrades.
Despite ongoing projects, 68% of homeowners said their homes still do not feel fully finished, suggesting renovation remains an ongoing process for many.
