By most accounts, roofing contractors had a great year in 2019, with some boasting more than a 3,000% growth. It helps explain why the number of roofing companies to make this year’s Inc. 5000 list nearly doubled.

Inc. Magazine recognized the success of more than 40 roofing companies on its annual Inc. 5000 list. In the 2019 list, 24 roofing companies were identified as being among the fastest growing, privately-owned companies in the nation.

Companies are ranked on the list by their percentage revenue growth when comparing 2016 and 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016, and had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit and independent. The minimum revenue requirement for 2016 was $100,000, and $2 million for 2019.

This is the first time many of the roofing companies made the list, such as Four Twelve Roofing out of Baltimore, Md., which saw a massive 3,049% increase in revenue. This earned it the 122nd rank on the list. Keep in mind that companies like Microsoft and Under Armour gained their first national exposure thanks to the magazine's list.

"We're thrilled to be recognized by Inc 5000 for this prestigious award," said Sam Frank, Co-founder of Four Twelve Roofing. "Our clients have helped us gain recognition as one of the top roofing companies in Baltimore, and for their support we're extremely grateful."

Other roofing companies are returning honorees, including The Exterior Company, Honest Able Roofing, Triad, and Exterior Medics. Aside from the Inc. 5000 list, the aforementioned contractors all earned a spot on RC’s 2020 Top 100 List.

“Our company grew substantially in 2019, due in part to our franchising efforts,” said Jason Revere, vice president of Honest Abe Roofing. “We expect to grow revenues in 2020 by 65%.”

The construction industry saw a median growth of 145% with a total revenue of $17.6 billion, and added 7,257 jobs. Of the 348 companies, 207 are repeat honorees.
