Northstar Successfully Produces First Liquid Asphalt in Calgary
Calgary facility processes waste asphalt shingles from start to finish.

Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. (TSXV: ROOF) announced a breakthrough at its Calgary asphalt shingle reprocessing facility, successfully producing its first liquid asphalt after completing commissioning of all major processing units.
The achievement marks full commissioning of both the facility's "front-end" processing equipment, completed in Q2 2025, and the hydrocarbon processing "back-end" systems. The company's Empower Calgary Facility can now process discarded asphalt shingles from start to finish, extracting liquid asphalt that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Initial laboratory testing of the liquid asphalt shows quality "significantly better" than previous pilot plant production and meets requirements for several of the company's commercial agreements, according to the press release.
"This video update is the most important one in the Company's history," said Northstar President and CEO Aidan Mills. "The asphalt produced in Calgary is the highest quality we have ever produced, demonstrating that our technology works."
Northstar now plans to ramp up production volumes toward its target of 80 tonnes per day to meet Emission Reduction Alberta's Commissioning Milestone 3 requirements, with eventual goals of reaching full nameplate capacity.
The Calgary facility represents Northstar's first commercial-scale operation using proprietary technology to break down waste asphalt shingles into reusable components: liquid asphalt for new roofing products, plus aggregate and fiber for construction applications.
The company also announced plans to grant approximately 2.4 million stock options and over 1.7 million restricted and performance share units to directors, officers, employees and consultants, subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval.
