Damato of the Day Is ... "The Kind of Government Interference We Really Need"

I was delighted to come across a YouTube video of Chad Collins testifying before a Congressional committee looking into  the Green Roofing Energy Efficiency Tax Act of 2009 (GREETA).

I was delighted to come across a YouTube video of Chad Collins testifying before a Congressional committee looking into  the Green Roofing Energy Efficiency Tax Act of 2009 (GREETA). Check it out for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdkW5f_ULzA&feature=related

Collins, a roofing contractor with operations in Athens and Augusta, Georgia, did a very credible job of presenting the case for supporting the legislation on behalf of the National Roofing Contractors Association. I will let Chad do the talking, but he really makes some great points in favor of this bill.

And it truly is not just a bill to benefit roofing contractors.

This legislation, if passed, will spur on badly needed economic activity in a sector of the economy that needs it the worst: construction. The beneficiaries of the tax incentives will be building owners who need the capital and just a little financial incentive to improve their buildings to make them more sustainable and energy efficient.

This may be the year. The roofing industry has been trying to modify the 39-year depreciation schedule for depreciating a roof (believing the true average life of a commercial roof is 17 years). Problem is, earlier versions of legislation have not been ‘sexy’ enough to make it into the spotlight long enough to become law. This year, “Insulation is sexy”, or so says the Greener-in-Chief.

Let’s hope all the attention on sustainability can sustain this bill and it’s 36 co-sponsors long enough for it to become law. Learn more about the legislation here:
