Milcor Aluminum Added to Approvals from Factory Mutual

Milcor’s aluminum and aluminum and galvanized steel Low Profile U-LPA, U-LPAG, and BIG SMOKY Heat & Smoke Vents were recently tested and approved by FM Global for compliance with FM Approvals Standard 4430 (04/07) for Heat and Smoke Vents.

The heat and smoke vents are used in large public auditoriums and school buildings for protection. They are designed to open automatically in the event of excessive heat created by a fire or in conjunction with wired alarm systems to release trapped smoke to prevent deaths from smoke inhalation and to allow easier vision for fire crews.

The lids must be able to open quickly and easily, yet remain closed in high winds which could create a suction effect which tries to force the lids open. Testing by FM Global showed that the aluminum lids were able to withstand a simulated wind uplift of 225 pounds per square foot. Since the turn of the previous century, Milcor has been manufacturing quality construction products.

The FM Approved Heat and Smoke Vents are the latest in that long tradition of quality products by Milcor that are used specifically for life-safety concerns in buildings such as schools and theaters.
