METALCON 2006 Sets Attendance Record
NEWTON, Mass. - The 16th Annual METALCON event held Oct. 3-5 at the Tampa Convention Center filled 80,000 square feet of space and drew more than 7,300 design and construction professionals from 40 different countries. The three-day event featured 715 booths, a comprehensive 38-session conference program and new live-action demonstrations of field techniques. Twenty new programs focused on methods for creating energy-efficient buildings that can withstand extreme weather conditions.

The three-day event featured 715 booths, a comprehensive 38-session conference program and new live-action demonstrations of field techniques. Twenty new programs focused on methods for creating energy-efficient buildings that can withstand extreme weather conditions.
“There were more attendees and more new exhibitors than at any of our previous shows and a host of new conference programs,” said the show’s director, Claire Kilcoyne
The conference also featured its annual STUD University, an intensive three-day steel-framing program produced by the Washington, D.C.-based Steel Framing Alliance. Instructors and a record 36 students built a three-bedroom, handicap accessible structure they donated to United States Army Staff Sgt. Paul Russell “Russ” Marek. A native of Satellite Beach, Fla., Marek was severely injured in Iraq in 2005 and is still recuperating. He also received $25,000 in donations from conference participants.
