A subcontracted roofing contractor from Georgia is facing penalties after a teenager in its employ fell 24 feet from a roof at a Pennsylvania jobsite, leading to investigations that revealed it also shortchanged workers in overtime.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Labor, JVS Roofing of Jonesboro, Ga., hired a 17-year-old for roofing work, an occupation defined as hazardous for young workers by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The teenager fell 24 feet from the roof of a New Castle, Pa., home improvement store in October 2022, sustaining minor injuries after the fall.
