GAF came together on Wednesday with Michigan City Sanitary District, Meyer and Plews Shadley, and other local partners to mark the opening of the Cheney Run Wetland Preserve at Karwick Nature Park in Indiana.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was the culmination of a decades-long revitalization project by the Michigan City Sanitary Department, which conducted preventative work and designed the preserve to allow wildlife to return to the area. GAF donated the land on the west side of the preserve along the Cheney Run tributary to the city to transform it into the Stormwater Treatment Wetland. The area acts as a barrier between the park and invasive plant species by naturally filtering pollutants and releasing water to Trail Creek.
