When it comes to shingles, every granule of color counts—and with the proliferation of home inspiration on social media, homeowners agree. In a recent survey by Owens Corning of women consumers, nearly 80% counted the style and shade of their roof as an important or extremely important factor in their choice of shingle.* And nearly 70% of them do all the research for their household when choosing a shingle color.
It’s why Owens Corning Roofing continues to to debut contemporary new shingle colors with deep dimension and contrast. In fact, in 2023 they’re introducing six new hues, including their Shingle Color of the Year, Midnight Plum.
“We put significant resources towards developing spectacular colors, and next year’s new shades are no exception,” said Sue Burkett, strategic marketing leader at Owens Corning Roofing. “We want to ensure contractors can deliver the best selection of colors possible alongside the superior performance they depend on from us.”
The new shades include timeless almost-blacks, like Williamsburg Gray and Peppercorn, as well as the cool gray- blue tones of Slatestone Gray. Sand Castle and Desert Rose are additions with earthy tones.
Then there is Midnight Plum, the hue with the most fanfare as the 2023 Shingle Color of the Year. Its tones of gray, inky blue and rich purple are inviting and intriguing, providing an exciting new choice for homeowners interested in making their exterior look unique without sacrificing timelessness.
And to help contractors inspire and educate homeowners as they embark on upgrades for their exterior, Owens Corning has also created exterior style boards for this series of colors and others.
“These tools help customers envision the full potential of a roof replacement and what it can do for their home,” Burkett said. “They’re a wonderful inspirational resource for contractors and homeowners alike.”
