The 2022 Owens Corning Shingle Color of the Year has been unveiled: the bold new Bourbon. Inspired by the warmth of its namesake, Bourbon features layered hues of leather and chocolate alongside cool shades of steely blue gray.
We spoke with Sue Burkett, Owens Corning Roofing’s strategic marketing manager, to learn more about this highly anticipated addition to the company’s TruDefinition® Duration® Designer series.
What is the Shingle Color of the Year?
Every year our marketing team analyzes homeowner demand and forecasted color trends. Then we name or create a new Shingle Color of the Year in response. For 2022 we created a brand-new shade, Bourbon.
How did you arrive at Bourbon?
Developing a new roofing color and getting it into the marketplace is a lengthy process, but with this unprecedented wave of renovation, remodeling and building, we saw an important opportunity to create a shingle color that matches a wide range of exterior color palettes. Bourbon is a darker, more contemporary shade of brown that definitely achieves that.
Why should color and design matter to roofing contractors?
Because it matters to homeowners. They are savvier than ever about design, seeking education and inspiration online. They want to work with contractors who can acknowledge their desire to make their home beautiful. But they also want performance, and all the Duration® Series Shingles feature SureNail® Technology for exceptional grip and nailing zone performance.
How can roofing contractors get up to speed on trends?
