This intermediate level course compares the changes for roofing from LEED v2009 to LEED v4 and demonstrates how a high-reflectance roof can contribute significantly to achieving the Heat Island Reduction credit now that LEEDv4 combines the Hardscape and Roof credits into one performance calculation.Attendees will learn how to conduct performance calculations quickly using the LEED credit Form to reduce the heat island footprint, inform design decisions, and achieve the credit. Learn where to source the new 3-year aged SRI and SR values and how to use them.
Understand how roofing contributes to the new material transparency credits in LEED v4, including the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) and HPD (Health ProductDeclaration) credits, learn where to find qualifying products and documentation, and gain the abilityto distinguish between a self-declared claim and a third-party verified claim.
Learning Objectives:
- Compare the changes for the roofing credit from LEED 2009 to the new LEED v4 Heat Island Reduction credit now that LEED v4 combines the Hardscape and Roof credits into one performance calculation.
- Conduct performance calculations quickly using the LEED credit Form to demonstrate how a high-reflectance roof contributes significantly to reducing the heat island footprint, informs design decisions and budgets, and achieves the LEED credit.
- Distinguish the difference between SR (Solar Reflectance) and SRI (Solar Reflectance Index) values and know where to source the new 3-year aged SRI and SR values and how to use them.
- Articulate how roofing contributes to the new material transparency credits in LEED v4, including the EPD and HPD credits, know where to find qualifying products and documentation, and have the abilityto distinguish between a self-declared claim and a third-party verified claim.
