Sika Sarnafil Presents Annual Project of the Year Awards to Roofing Contractors

Sika Sarnafil has announced the winners of its 2008 Projects of the Year Competition. Twelve contractors were recognized for outstanding workmanship in completing a recent project utilizing a Sika Sarnafil thermoplastic membrane for roofing or waterproofing applications.



CANTON, Mass. - Sika Sarnafil has announced the winners of its 2008 Projects of the Year Competition. Twelve contractors were recognized for outstanding workmanship in completing a recent project utilizing a Sika Sarnafil thermoplastic membrane for roofing or waterproofing applications. A winner and two finalists were chosen from each of four different categories - Low Slope, Steep Slope, Waterproofing, and Sustainability.

More than 30 contractors from around the country submitted projects for evaluation in the annual competition. Entries were judged on project complexity, design uniqueness, project importance, craftsmanship, and creative problem solving. First place winners were awarded cash prizes and all finalists were presented with handsome recognition pieces.

First place in the Low Slope category was Best Contracting Services, Inc., of Gardena, Calif., for their work at the Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif. Best Contracting removed an older roofing system above several acute care departments and installed a Sika Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof system, and without greatly impacting the hospital’s 24 / 7 operations.

Taking second place in this grouping was Total Building Maintenance, Inc., of Chattanooga, Tenn., and third place went to Bloxsom Roofing & Siding Company of Traverse City, Michigan.

In the Steep Slope category, Peach State Roofing, Inc., of Lawrenceville, Ga., was awarded first place for their efforts at the Mount Carmel Christian School in Stone Mountain, Ga. Peach State replaced a 35,000-square-foot metal roof with a Sika Sarnafil Décor Roof System, making the facility watertight after years of leaking and giving the roof the appearance of standing metal seams. A-1 Roofing Company of Elk Grove Village, Ill., was the second place finisher, and Meade Construction, Inc. of Fredericktown, Ohio was the third place finalist.

Bloom Roofing Systems, Inc., of Brighton, Mich., took first place in the Waterproofing class for their work at the H.H. Dow Academy, Ashman Court, in Midland, Mich. The company installed a Sika Sarnafil waterproofing system under a 10,000-square-foot courtyard and put an end to chronic leaking which had adversely affected facilities below-grade for years. Second place in this category went to SLR Roofing Systems, Inc., of Fort Worth, Texas, and third place to Dryspace, Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In the Sustainability category, Silktown Roofing, Inc., of Derby, Conn., was the victor for employing an integrated photovoltaic system to reroof the 189,000-square-foot. Naugatuck High School in Naugatuck, Conn. This roof included solar panels from Solar Integrated of Los Angeles, integrated with an energy-efficient vinyl membrane from Sika Sarnafil. In second place was T.L. Gowin & Company, Inc., of Cartersville, Ga., and in third place for this grouping was Solar Integrated of Los Angeles.

Shots From The Maverick: 2012 Fundraiser Benefits Colorado Youth Outdoors

The Maverick was held May 4-6 at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch in Loveland, Colo. The event is a sporting clays shoot and fundraiser for Colorado Youth Outdoors, whose mission is to strengthen relationships between youth and their parents through traditional outdoor activities.Several members of the roofing industry were on hand to support the event, whose corporate sponsors include Prologis and Johns Manville.
