Elk Corp., Dallas, announced that it will build a 415,000-square-foot asphalt roofing products manufacturing facility contiguous to its existing facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The $75 million, state-of-the-art plant will employ up to 125 people and will manufacture Elk’s nationally distributed Prestique premium laminated fiberglass asphalt shingles for residential and steep-sloped commercial roofs.

Scheduled to open in April 2004, the new plant is expected a have an economic impact of more than $75 million annually in the Tuscaloosa area. The original plant, which Elk acquired in 1976, employs 150 and will remain in operation.
